Participate in research

Steel City Medical partners with the Hamilton Medical Research Group — located right in our building — to give patients the option of taking part in clinical research.

Research, steps from your doctor's office

Clinical studies are how medicine moves forward — how new vaccines, treatments and devices are proven safe and effective. The Hamilton Medical Research Group (HMRG) conducts clinical trials at 304 Victoria Avenue North, which means our patients can take part in research without going further than the building they already know.

Participation may give you access to new treatments and closer monitoring of your condition. Every study is reviewed by a research ethics board, participation is always voluntary, and you can withdraw at any time — none of it ever affects your regular care with us.

How patients hear about studies

If a study is recruiting patients like you, your care team may mention it at a visit. We also use technology, including AI, to help identify patients who could be a fit for a research study — a member of the team then reviews any match before anyone contacts you. Joining is always your choice, and saying no will never affect your care.

Interested in a study?

  • Ask your provider at your next visit
  • Call the fifth-floor clinic: 905-545-1376
  • Visit HMRG for current studies: hmrg.org

Studies open and close throughout the year. If nothing fits today, you can ask to be considered for future studies.

Good to know: research participation is free, and study visits are usually scheduled around your life — some studies even compensate for your time and travel.
